‘If we could give every individual the right amount of nourishment and exercise, not too little and not too much, we would have found the safest way to health’. Hippocrates

With 1 day before I fly out to Doha, Qatar to compete in the 100km ultra-marathon World Championships my focus is on hydration and nutrition. The term ‘last month’s diet is this month’s body’ is so true. Just as what I fuel myself with today will affect my performance in 8 days.

Hippocrates is right ‘balance’ is the key to safe, sustainable good health. Optimal health requires planning and commitment. This said even the most disciplined are challenged as life gets busy.

I know for myself when I am preparing to go away and am juggling family, training, work and pre travel errands I run my fresh food supplies low leaving it difficult in the last days to have all of the fresh pre-prepared foods on hand that keep me clean, lean and well nourished.

With back-to-back commitments and no fresh food stocked, I am relieved and grateful for SumoSalad’s ‘Design your Own’ concept. I was able to get online, design my own salad, call up and pre order to have it ready for collection once I finished my last minute pre-trip errands. Efficiency, convenience and nourishment all at once; win, win, win.

As a self-confessed control freak, foodie and superfood-aholic I enjoy nothing more than creating foods I love. To be able to create the exact salad you desire and see the nutritional ingredients worked out for you is an athlete’s (or any self-confessed health nut’s) dream come true.

Generally speaking I adopt an 80/20 (alkaline/acidic) approach to my food intake. Research has shown athletes that have a higher alkaline diet experience less lactic acid build up. Good healthy fats are really important for energy and recovery, which is why I incorporate seeds, nuts and avocado into my daily diet. With this in mind I created the Kezz100-ultra salad.

I have had so much fun creating the Kezz100-Ultra SumoSalad for this week I trust you will enjoy the process as much as me.
