Why My Other Car is a Bike: Top 5 Benefits of Cycling

My other car is a bike

You may not know, but I’m a passionate bike rider. Although I try to avoid walking around the office in lycra, I have been leaving the car and riding more to work over the past few months and I’ve really been enjoying it.

It’s a great way to spend your commute as you’re actively doing something and can often get around more quickly avoiding the traffic.

This year I decided to step it up a notch, so along with Phil Shields from our ELT we’ll be attempting the Sydney to Gong Ride (this Sunday, Nov 2). The ride is 90km and whilst also enjoying the cycling aspect, it’s also an opportunity to raise money for the MS Australia.

Multiple Sclerosis is a disease which affects over 23,000 people in Australia, and many of us here at SumoSalad have friends or family who have been affected by the disease. With no cure currently available, Phil and I are excited to be putting in an effort to help fund research for a cure.

We would really appreciate it if you helped support this worthy cause and our hopefully worthy riding effort this weekend by heading to our fundraising page here.

While you’re here, why not read up on a few great benefits of cycling:

  1. Less impact on your joints than running

Because riding a bike is low impact, you can practically do it at any age!

  1. Enjoy the outdoors and your surroundings

Fresh air and visual stimulation you just don’t get in a gym

  1. Do your exercise on the go

Instead of making time for exercise, you can make it part of your commute

  1. Reduce Stress

Granted, most exercise will help with this, but riding a bike instead of sitting in traffic with a car can mean even less stress on top of that!

  1. The Lycra

Ok, maybe not that one.

If you’d like to help us fundraise for MS Australia and support our riding effort, please DONATE HERE. We really appreciate your support and we hope to see you at the finish line!
